When visiting the Maritime provinces Cape Breton Island is almost on everyone's travel list. If it was only that simple. Finding the best places and things to do can be challenging. So we have made this list of a few of our favorite things!
This shouldn't be a surprise! This 300 km winding seaside drive, it is widely knowns as one of the most beautiful drives in the world. The trail features cliffs dropping into the ocean, rounded mountains, glacially scarred rocks, old-growth forests and some terrifying chicanes which make the Cabot Trail one of the most beautiful stretches of road in North America. Viewpoints, beaches, hiking trails, small towns, and scenic attractions constantly making drivers to pull over to take in the breath taking views of the island where ocean meets mountain.
Hiking Trails Cape Breton Island National Park
Apart from driving along the Cabot Trail. The Cape Breton Highland National Park offers many scenic hikes for those looking for some adventure. The Highland National Park is located in the north part of the island and extends for more than 950 square kilometers that are home to may wildlife that include moose, coyotes, bears, wild cats and eagles.

The Skyline Trail: One of the most popular and spectacular views is the skyline trail. The skyline trail is one of the easiest and is a 2 hour hike to the boardwalk to view the cliff drop into the sea. It is important to stay on the boardwalk in order to protect the fragile plant life around and for your own safety.
Inverness Beach: Inverness Beach is known for Its’ warm shallow waters, soft sand, majestic sunsets and beachside boardwalk provide a perfect setting for a day in the sun.
Meat Cove Mountain Trail: Meet Cove trail is the most northern part of Cape Breton island and Nova Scotia. This one of the more challenging trails as its one of the steepest trail on the island. The park has layed out ropes to help assist in some of the steeper sections of the climb. However challenging the views at end off the trail are worth the struggle.
The fortress of Louisbourg is a living museum on Cape Breton Island. It is Canada's most famous historical reconstruction recreated from ruins and contemporary records. During the tour you will be introduced to the individuals of mid-18th-century life in east coast of Canada. Throughout the main tourist season animaters reenact the daily lives of the "townspeople" (including servants, soldiers, merchants, maids, and fishermen). The restaurants at the site serves traditionally spatiality dishes prepared from old recipes
